The great key debacle

I woke up Sunday morning
I looked up on the wall
The beetles and the bed bugs
Were playing a game of ball.

Ok, so that song came to mind while I was trying to figure out a way to start this post and the first thought that came to mind was "I woke up Saturday morning." I remembered that song from girlscout summer camp and has nothing to do with the great key debacle.

If you've been following my tweets at all, you'll know that my husband lost his keys sometime between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. If you have not been following my tweets and have no idea what I'm talking about, then let me give you the run down: My husband lost his keys sometime between Friday evening and Saturday afternoon. Now you're all caught up!

Since my dear sweet husband had a softball game to get to, there was no time for him to search for the keys; so he took my car to the game and left me and the boys behind. I tried to retrace his steps, figuring how where he was when the keys were last seen; in the garage. He and his friend Travis had dug out the air soft guns and had a shoot out. When that was finished, James had taken his keys from the work bench to unlock his truck so that Travis could get his sunglasses. The truck was locked back up and the keys... well... who knows where they went from there. I peered into the truck, but did not see anything. I searched the garage high and low, inside and out.

I moved the lawn mower, I checked in all the cabinets and drawers, I emptied the contents of the bag where the airsoft guns were kept, I even checked the bin where the dog food is kept. There were no keys to be found.

I moved to the front yard, thinking maybe the keys had fallen out of his pocket. The grass and rocks were carefully looked over, the cracks in the driveway and sidewalk were searched. I looked under rocks and bushes and still no keys.

I came inside and started searching in and around the usual spots where he leaves them. He has a blue basket where he empties the contents of his pockets into; all his loose change, lighters and, of course, his keys before he goes to bed at night. I emptied the basket and confiscated some quarters came up with nothing. I cleaned off the dresser, emptied drawers and moved the dresser away from the wall to see if they had fallen back behind it. The keys were not to be found.

I did, however, find some jewelry that I thought I had lost along with 2 chargers. 1 charger that goes to an old Blue Tooth I no longer have and another charger I still have no idea what it goes to. Hmmm, wait a sec... Just had an idea. Never mind. One mystery solved. It goes to my digital picture keychain. I really should update that thing with new pictures.

Ahem.

I also found a pencil sharpener, a few pens and pencils, some old car wash coins and a lighter.

I continued my search... under the bed.

I will spare you the horror of seeing what I found under the bed, but not from describing it. Your welcome. Besides the items we placed under there *cough*adult games and toys *cough* I found an empty bag of puff corn that I'm sure the dog dragged under their to enjoy at her leisure, one of John's old crocs, (the other shoe I had thrown out months ago thinking this one would never resurface) a coke can, an empty vial of albuteral and one of John's many missing socks. After cleaning the garbage out from under the bed, I continued my search. The end tables produced yet another lighter and another one of John's many missing socks. Woohoo! But still no keys.

I moved out of the bedroom and into the dining/kitchen/computer area. I glanced through the kitchen rather quickly because James rarely spends time in the kitchen and moved on to the computer area.

In case you were wondering, no, I did not clean my desk just so I could take a picture of it. Today just happened to be cleaning day. Ok, so I did move the diet dr. pepper can, my purse, and a can of air spray before taking the picture. I also put the scissors back in the holder and the pad of paper back on the hutch. Don't judge me!

I didn't find anything interesting, nor did I find the keys. I moved on to the living room. Remembering that James and Travis were playing Guitar Hero, I thought maybe the keys had fallen out while they were playing their video game.

I lifted the couch and found several tinker toys. I left them there. I removed the cushions and found another one of John's many missing socks, several hotwheels, more tinker toys and a foam dart. No keys. I looked under the love seat, inside the arm rest, dug under and behind the seats and still no keys. I glanced under the table and found my lens cap. I removed the cushion from the chair and found another hotwheel and a quarter. I was pretty stoked about the quarter and thought by the time I got done searching for these keys I will have found enough money in pennies, knickels, dimes and quarters to buy me a new lens for Nikki.

With no luck finding the keys in the living room, I moved into the boys bedroom. I searched under the bed, in the closet, opened all the drawers to their dresser and night stand, lifted the mattresses on their bed and looked on the windowsill. No friggin' keys.

I decided to take a break. I sat on the couch, contemplating areas I have not yet searched. I updated twitter and facebook pleading for idea's on where I should look for missing keys. I followed up on every.single.one. Or rather, to the best of my ability. My friend, Courtney, suggested I look in the freezer and eat a bowl of ice cream while I was in their. No keys were found in the freezer and much to my dismay, no ice cream either. Darn.
My sister, Rhiannon, suggested they could be on a black shelf. This is where she found her keys once and they were hard to see camalflouged with the shelf. I looked around, but I have no black shelves.
Lisa suggested they were in a pocket or hanging in the closet. I checked all the pockets of the jeans I had washed that day, all the jacket pockets from everybody who had worn one on Friday and Saturday, I shook all the clothes on both sides of the closet and heard not a jingle.
Terri suggested the couch cushions (all ready done), the garbage (not gonna happen), between the seats in the car (truck was locked, I couldn't look and James had the car), or in the bathroom. Awesome, a new idea. But they weren't there either.
Mona suggested the toy box. (I'd rather go through the garbage) The toy box gets cleaned out once a year and there's no way I'm going to torture myself more then that.
My BFF, Stephanie, wanted to know if I would let her know where I found them because she lost her keys about a month ago and wanted to know where she could look to find them. Thanks Steph, that was helpful.
My mom said to ask John. Yea right! Like that would get me anywhere.

But I was pretty desperate for idea's so I gave it a shot.
"John, where's daddy's keys?"
"Oh, I'll show you!" - Takes my hand and walks me into my bedroom and points to daddy's blue basket.
"No John, they aren't there. I all ready looked."
"Oh." - Walks over to the bed and looks all around the night stand and under the bed.
*sigh* I knew that was a bad idea.
My mom again suggested they would be in the last place I looked. Fan-freakin'-tastic, mom.

Then there was Becca. She said she had them and would only give them back if I traded them for my camera. My DSLR camera. I told her she could keep the keys. We'd buy a new truck! James was a little too excited over the prospect of a new truck when I told him about this conversation!

I decided to contact road side assistance so they could break into James' truck. 45 minutes later, I was searching the cushions, the dashboard and underneath the seats of his truck and still no friggin' keys. All that breaking in for nothing.

I called the pizza place where we had dinner and the bowling alley where we hung out on Friday night. Neither place had any keys turned in. I checked craigslist's 'lost and found' section to see if anybody had found them and didn't turn them in to the facility. No keys. At least, not James' keys.

James got home from his softball game, I had run out of places to look and was no longer finding interesting things. I decided to give up the search for the night, but found myself scanning for missed area's to search in every room I entered. I went to bed with visions of dust bunnies, hiding places and keys dancing in my head.

I woke early this morning, read a passage from my bible and prayed. Prayed for help in finding the keys. I made donuts for breakfast and thought up idea's for where the keys could be hiding. I ate the donuts I made and decided they really weren't that good. FYI, don't make donutes with cake mix. They're really gross. I searched for keys. I woke up James and searched for keys. I went to church, played with kids, came home and searched for keys. I called the pizza place and the bowling ally again and the both said there still were no keys turned in. I searched craigslist again and the keys that were on there were the same ones from yesterday. I finally decided the keys were a lost cause. James had given up hours before and was calling the Ford dealerships to see if any of them were open so they could make new keys. None of them were. Awesome. We were desperate. We had run out of idea's. We had searched every knook and cranny known to man. In my desperation, I had even searched the playroom. I turned up 2 more socks and something I won't even mention except to say I made James bring in a tissue so he could clean it up. Finally, James had called a locksmith. The guy said he would be here in 30-45 minutes. We waited. I played on facebook and twittered some more. The guy came. His name was Todd. He was my hero. I don't know why he was my hero. It's not like I was going to miss out on work tomorrow. It's not like I had lost my keys. I suppose it's because of all the time I had spent searching for the keys and knowing that my search was about to come to an end. Todd saved my sanity today. He made 2 keys. HA HA! 2 keys!! We would have a spare!

This is Todd. My hero for the day. He was very soft spoken and too honest for his own good. After discussing the James Gary name issue we have going on here (There are 3 James Gary's living under this roof) I said "Do you see what I have to live with?" He replied, "I'm not responsible for your choices." OUCH! Nobody had ever put it to me that way before. I have to say it stung just a little bit. But I quickly forgave him because he was the reason I no longer had to search for the keys. And he was very gracious about having his picture taken for this blog post.

Not only did he fix our key problem, but he also gave us idea's on how to unstick our screen door. The screen door has been giving us fits for weeks now and when Todd attempted to close the screen door and failed, he looked at the area it was sticking and told James how to fix it.

And now, I will rest easy knowing that James will be able to drive tomorrow and that all my dust bunnies have been cleaned out and I may very well have found all of John's missing socks. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to count all the coins I found and see if it's enough to by that lens.

I can't thank you enough

So I'll say it with a picture

Photobucket

I might be a small blog, but I've got regular commenters! And I am so very thankful for their support, encouragement and laughs! I've met so many great woman since I started blogging, and while choosing which bloggers to thank this time around was easy, I hope there will be many more of these to come!

Ruth
Photobucket

The first and longest follower, commenter, blogging friend is known in my comments as RaD. Well, that pretty much describes her. She is RAD! {kinda feel like I'm back in the 80's} She's got a heart for God and serving other's. She dares you to be used by God and lives it everyday. Ruth has 2 adorible kids, and if I ever get the chance, I will braid Bethany's hair! I loved her Christmas vacation series and learned you can take great photographs with a point and shoot!

Mrs. Nurse Boy
Photobucket

Mrs. Nurse Boy has much to smile about and who wouldn't with 2 strapping young men and the cutest little Sweet Pea! Oh, and Mr. Nurse Boy who tortures his kids! She's a faithful follower of Christ with a sweet spirit and is raising her kids to follow as well.

Amanda
Photobucket

Amanda is mommy and she is baker. She is best known in blog land for her baking and more particularly, her cookies. I'm so glad I clicked on her blog, without which, I might be 20lbs lighter! While her confections are appealing,  what impresses me most about Amanda is her humble heart. She loves Jesus and strives to find God's will in everything she does. I just don't know how she finds the time for all that baking and still raise 3 adorible kids. She is super mom!

Becca

Becca is one of my newest blog friends. She has a couple of crazy boys who say the darndest things. She finds the funny in everyday life, never misses an opportunity to learn something new and when you visit her blog, make sure you read through her comments! Guess what else? I guess I just miss my friend...

Have you ever had those moments when you’ve said something stupid and you knew it was stupid to say even before you say it, but your off switch didn’t click on time and you said it anyway?

No?

Me neither then…

Ok, I lied. That happens to me all the time. I think my off switch is broken. I am forever pulling my foot out of my mouth, which is probably why I tattooed a fish on it. Or maybe that was just coincidental. Or maybe God knew I was going to be pulling my foot out of my mouth often and made a way for it to taste better… or something.

Unfortunately, my inability to shut my mouth has cost me some dear friendships. One of these friendships has been particularly hard to get past. You see, I met this woman on my second day on a new job. We were both temps for the company we now work full time for. We hit it off immediately. We took our breaks and lunch’s together. Our cubicles were right next to each other, but that didn’t stop us from using instant messages and giggling over the silliest things. Since I am painfully shy in real life, I felt very blessed to have this friend.

Unfortunately, the inevitable happened. I opened my mouth and said something stupid. My remarks were not taken in the manner they were intended and feelings were hurt. Again, and again, and again. Our friendship had been strained, and finally broken. It was made worse (for me) because the ending happened during my short stint with depression. I couldn’t handle much more drama that what I had all ready created in myself, so I put distance between us. One fateful day, right in the middle of it, she had asked if I would go out on break with her. I guess my sadness was mistaken for coldness. I suppose I can’t blame her because she wasn’t aware of my depression until much later.

So today, we still work in the same building. She has moved to the same floor as me, but does her best to avoid me. I sit at my desk and eat my lunch alone, staring at my computer screen.

I don’t know why I’m posting this now… It’s been a while since all this has taken place.

I guess, I just miss my friend…

I don’t know any one who fits this description. If you find one, can you send her my way, please? I want to know the secret.
Thanks!

**Text message conversation I had with my friend Lori:

Me: Hey woman, I'm out of ideas for blog posts. Got an idea of something I can write about?

Lori: How about..... hmmmmmmm.....thinking..... Things to contemplate while one is sick.

Me: I've had a few contemplations the past few days. Like re-purposing shirts, how to make a water bottle holder, and baking cookies. But the only thing I accomplished was the shirt.

Lori: I didn't say accomplish! You're not suppose to do that when you're sick, silly!

Me: Oh, duh. I'm such a rule breaker.

Yes, yes I did... make the Rainbow Cake

This past weekend, we spent some time with friends. I had been dying to make the rainbow cake that MckMama blogged about and was thrilled to pieces to find out that my new blog friend, Amanda, made this cake and posted on her blog where to find the recipe!

Since my niece was over spending time with me, she helped me make the cake! It was so fun to make, so pretty to look at, and so yummy to eat!

Started by getting out all the ingredients and utensils needed.

My beautiful niece, Victoria got to mix her mommy's favorite color.

I'm fairly certain the oven was happy to have something so colorful to bake!

And I'm sure the bowls were happy too!

John pointing at his mommy's favorite color!

Ok, so my frosting job isn't nearly as pretty as Amanda's, but my baking skills are still in the infant stages, ok?

And since I have absolutly nothing original to say on my cake, I will copy Amanda's cake on this aspect too, and not well either.

But the end result - it was really pretty, and I learned something new. Did you know that a rainbow's colors actually have an order to them? Of course you did, that's why the original recipe had the order of the colors. Of course, it wasn't explained to me on that recipe that it went in that order because of the rainbow rule. I later found out the rainbow rule from my friend after we cut the cake. She was so excited that the colors went in order and I kinda looked at her dumbly wondering what she was talking about. Then it clicked as to why the order of the colors was on the recipe!

See - so pretty. This should probably go in the 'stuff people all ready know but I'm so slow, I'm just now figuring it out'.

The cake was so delicious and pretty and enjoyed by all.

Thank you Amanda!

When will I ever learn?

The best conversations happen at the dinner table.

Last night, I prepared a lovely meal of leftover tuna noodle casserole with peas and a side salad. *Side note, because that's how my brain works, all the salad dressing was expired but we ate it anyway. Ewww, who does that?*

We always pray before we eat the dinner meal, and our one rule is that if someone eats before the food is blessed, then that person has to pray. Last night, dad placed a big 'ol forkful of casserole his mouth and we all said "oooooohhhh, daddy has to pray!" His excuse was that since this is leftovers, the food had all ready been blessed. So, of course, like I usually do - I badgered him until he put his fork down and prayed. His prayer, while very appropriate in wording, had a bit of a tone to it. When he finished, I told him - "dear, I don't think Jesus likes your tone."

Gary replied - "Mom, their's no wrong way to pray. Jesus hears them all."

How. Does. He. DO. THAT?!

At least I know he's paying attention in church!

*******************

In other news - we're looking forward to a fun 3 day weekend. Mine started at 12:30 this afternoon since my department rocks! They let us all leave 2 hours early.

The kids are going to spend the night at my mom's house tonight, so if you could say a prayer for her, she'll be needing it! Not only will she have my 2 boys, but my sister, her boyfriend and their 3 kids, ages 7, 5, and 3 live with her for the time being. I was also just informed that there will be 3 other kids hanging out until their dad picks them up. No, my mom does not run a daycare center, but I'm pretty sure she'd be a millionaire by now if she did. In exchange for a peaceful night without boys, I'll be forced blessed to keep my sisters 2 boys on Saturday night.

Tonight, James and I will be spending time with some new friends of ours. Then tomorrow James and his dad will be spending the ENTIRE day taking their CCW class. (that's the concealed carry weapon for those that don't know) I'll get the morning to myself until I pick up the little urchlings darlings. Maybe I'll get some sewing in or some housecleaning. Scratch the housecleaning. I'll stick to sewing!

*******************

I believe this is the first time I've ever heard my kid say this. (This just happened by the way). John started crying and and came over to me. From the living room, Gary told me, "Whatever he says, he's LYING". At least he makes it easy for me to know who to punish!

What are you up to this weekend?

Stalker Revealed. It was Me!

Dinner was had, clean up was done, boys were playing quietly. I took this opportunity to catch up on my facebook. I was scanning through my friends updates, when I see my girlfriend’s son had put the following as his status:

I’m bored, text me (***)***-****

(No quotations because I’m paraphrasing here). This boy, we’ll call him C, is in the 8th grade. Being the kind and wonderful person I am, I get a little concerned that my friend’s son is posting his phone # on the internet. Something I’m no ok with. Do I call his mother and kindly let her know so that she can have a chat with her son? No. Do I call him and tell him that I’m concerned about his safety and that he should remove his # from his status? Nope! I decide to play the stalker. You know, to teach him a lesson. I took no joy from this what-so-ever. Knowing that my phone # would not be programmed into C’s phone, I knew he would not know who I am. Here’s how the texting went:

Me: C, you should not be giving out your phone # on facebook. Then people like me can get and text stuff to you and you have no idea who I am.

C: Oh so that narrows it down to the 125 friends I have

Me: Unless some of those friends are all ready in your phone, then it narrows it down a little more. But I’m not one of your friends in your phone! Haha

C: No your not. What is thy current school thy is going to

Me: Now if I told you that, then you’d be able to narrow it down even more and ruin all my fun! And what fun would that be?

C: Ok, you have the are code *** so you are a resident of [a certain area]

Me: How many of your friends are in [a certain area] that are on your facebook and not in your phone?

C: Many

Me: Too bad! Guess the area code thing won’t narrow it down much. Now what are you gonna do?

At this time, I start texting his mom letting her know what was going on. She was thrilled!

C: Beat everyone down to a pulp

Me: Well now, that’s not very nice. Besides, who would you beat down?

C: Everyone who is my friend but I don’t have there number.

Me: How many would that be?

C: ikd

Me: That sounds like a lot of work to me. But, do you think beating down all your friends will get you the into your looking for?

C: Yes

Me: All right! Are you gonna keep texting me as the beat down commences or should I wait until your down?

C: ok just tell me

Me: Tell you what?

C: Your name

Me: I’ll give you my middle initial but that’s all.

C: Ok fine

Me: B

C: What’s your middle name: Be nice and give me a break

Me: I can’t tell you that. You see, my middle name is very gender specific, so if I gave you that then it would narrow it down even more. And that would ruin my fun.

C: Just tell me your middle name, who cares if I know your gender

Me: Maybe I care. What grade r u in?

C: What grade are you? I’m C, you should know.

At this point I text his mom asking what grade he was in

Me: I know your in 8th grade, I just wanted you to feel a little bit better about not knowing who I am. I know even more than that!

C: Like what?

Texting his mom asking what his middle name was

Me: Like your middle name

C: And what is it

Me: It starts with the letter right before mine!

C: That’s not possible

Me: What’s not possible?

C: My middle name starts with A

Me: I know, I just said that

C: What’s your name, I’m gonna cry

Me: I told you, it starts with a B. And will you take a pic and post it on fb?

C: of what?

Me: You crying

C: just about

Me: Ok ok, I’ll tell you something else I know about you

C: What?

Me: I know where you live

C: Haha really what’s my address

Me: How ‘bout if I just come over instead?

C: No you’ve just made it to my ignore list

Me: Who are you ignoring?

At this point I’m back on facebook chatting with his mom who’s telling me that C is very nervous! And James starts reading the texts and decides he’s gonna have his say too.

James posing as me: Don’t ignore me. That could turn out very bad for you.

James posing as me: Especially if I know where you live. Ignoring me would upset me and then I would have to pay you a visit.
Now I’m chatting with my friend on facebook asking for directions to her house.

C: I could sit outside with a gun. I can call the police if you don’t tell me who you are.

James posing as me: You could, but your dad keeps his guns locked up. How’s his shoulder?

In the car driving over to her house

C: MICHELE

Crafty kid had asked his mom for her cell phone on the pretext of playing a game then went through her text messages. It didn’t dawn on her to erase the text messages from me first.

Me: I’m coming over

C: No

Me: Yes

Me after arriving at the house: I’m here C, maybe you can hear the ding from my phone when you send me a text.

Then I knock on the door. I can hear C’s mom saying “C, someone’s here to see you!” She opens the door and C runs through the front entry way, but not quick enough before his mom, sister, and I grab him and I give him a great big hug and ask how my new friend is doing! He then runs off to his room and slams the bedroom door!

I had a lovely visit with my friend, but being that it was late, I had to get up early, and the whole purpose of going over there was to scare C a little, the visit was short. After getting into my car, I sent him one last text.

Me: Thanks for texting with me! I hope our boredom has been cured!

I haven't heard from C since.

As I crawled into bed, I started thinking C might be a little upset with me and the consequences might lead him to remove me from his friend list. But it was totally worth it!

I did log onto facebook the next morning and saw that he had deleted his status with his phone # and he did not remove me from his friend list. Perhaps I’ll be forgiven afterall!

I love my husband!

I got an email a few minutes ago from him complaining that my last post was on Tuesday Aug 4th and what was he suppose to do? Read the Aug 4th post again? Why not? It was totally inpiring. Actually, I have no idea what I wrote on Aug 4th, but I believe I was inspired to write it. Why else would I have written it? I guess he was just bored and wanted to read the twisted thoughts that sometimes run through my head. I try to keep them at bay, but at times they come out in my writing.

Some funny stuff that's gone on in our house lately:

John likes to mix up the names of the family members, so at times I'll be Papa, Dad will be mom, papa will be Gary, John will be Dad, and Gary will be mom - not necessarily in this mixed up way, but in some form someone is someone else. (Did that make sense?)

Anyway - the other day, I was Travis (a friend who stayed with us last week) Dad was mom, and John was dad. John walks up to his dad, and this is out the conversation went:

John: "Mom"

Dad: "Yea dad?"

John: "Can I go play in the playroom?"

Dad: "Sure"

John: "BOO YEAH" as he pumps his fists in the air

My friend is not talking to me, again. And as much as I'd like to pretend I don't care, I really kinda do. Most of the time I'm angry and I wanna say hurtful things and just be done with the whole relationship, but the christian in me wants to extend grace and forgiveness, even when I don't think she deserves it. Afterall, isn't that was grace is? During these times of... ahem... waiting and quietness from my friend, I find I have to ask forgiveness from my Father all too often. My thoughts revert to what I would say when she decides to start talking to me again, and believe me, the conversations are NOT pretty. Or should I just confront her about it and find out what her problem is, again. Or just wait it out. Every time, the thoughts turn ugly, so I crank up the radio and listen to the christian songs reminding me of God's love, forgiveness, and what really matters. That God loves her, no matter what - and so should I.

Crap.

That usually kills the ugliness in my head and puts me at peace once more.
